After comprehensively beating Lithuania, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man in the group stage, the Maltese team then succumbed to Poland in a close semi-final encounter.
In the final Hungary had the better of Poland to take Gold, while in the re-match between Malta and the Isle of Man for third and fourth place, the Maltese men once again proved superior.
Malta’s top player, Bradley Hindle Deguara, was the outstanding player of these championships, winning all his matches without dropping a game.
The final classification was as follows:
4. Isle of Man
Hungary and Poland will thus next year play in the second division. The European Team Championships are organised every year by the European Squash Federation. This year’s Division 1 and 2 championships are currently ongoing in Riccione, Italy. The two nations who will finish last in the second division will take part in the Division 3 championships of next year which will be held in Slovenia.
