The Maltese Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Malta Basketball Association and the Malta Wheelchair Basketball Association today launched a campaign to promote 3×3 Basketball in schools.
This project will take place in the months of November and December.
The objective of the Campaign, which is part of the Maltese Olympic Committee Sports of All programme is to enable students to discover, learn and understand this emerging sport which will be part of the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the 2023 Games of the Small States of Europe, which will be hosted in Malta.
Qualified international coaches will be running practice sessions on a professional 3×3 Basketball Court which will be purposely set up in a number of schools, which have accepted the Maltese Olympic Committee’s invitation to be part of this programme.
Whilst creating a unique sports experience, students will also benefit from the opportunity of practicing one of the newest Olympic Sport disciplines. The programme has also included 3×3 wheelchair basketball, which will enable students to not only experience a totally different dimension of basketball but also become more aware of the inclusivity and wide spectrum of sports.
The Project will see 3×3 Basketball introduced at St. Martin’s College, Swatar, St. Elias College, Sta. Venera, Our Lady Immaculate School, Hamrun, Sacred Heart College, De La Salle College, St. Anton School, Mgarr and St. George Preca Blata l-Bajda Middle School.
This project is being made possible through the support of Olympic Solidarity.
