BAKU 2015 The first European Games
Welcome to the Baku 2015 European Games – the first ever major multi-sport event for the entire continent. Baku 2015 will be a celebration of elite sport in the capital city of Azerbaijan, a modern and dynamic European destination. The European Games will bring together more than 6,000 of the continent’s finest athletes over 17 days of competition, in an exciting range of traditional and innovative sports. Join us on an exciting journey that will unite the people of Europe to see who will write their names into history as the first ever European Champions!
The Baku 2015 European Games will feature a total of 20 sports: 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic sports. The European Olympic Committees (EOC) dreamed of a creating a major multi-sport event that was challenging, innovative and modern. Baku 2015 is that dream becoming a reality. Alongside traditional sports such as Athletics, Aquatics and Gymnastics, exciting new sports such as 3×3 Basketball, Beach Soccer and Karate will also be showcased. To date, 11 sports will offer qualification opportunities for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. A diverse Sports Programme has been created to ensure every day of competition is inspiring, groundbreaking and breathtaking. And with 245 gold medals to be won, competition will be intense for the honour to be called the first ever European Champion.
Flag Square Cluster
The area surrounding Baku’s iconic Flag Square is the location for two major venues for Baku 2015 – Crystal Hall, and the brand new European Games Park (EGP). The venues will be home to 12 sports, attract over half the athletes and officials for the games, whilst expected to host more than half of the total games spectators.
