By August 3, 2023 August 6th, 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games

The Maltese contingent chosen to compete in the forthcoming Commonwealth Youth Games left for Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday Morning.

The Commonwealth Youth Games will take place between the 4th and 12th August and Malta will be fielding three Maltese triathletes.

Keira Attard, Kai Azzopardi and Ryan Muscat will be competing in the Super Sprint Individual Distance, whilst Attard and Azzopardi will be teaming up to compete in the Super Sprint Mixed Relay together.

First competitions will be held the 6th August, when all individual competitions will take place at Bucco Bay, Tobago.  Attard and Azzopardi will then return to Bucco Bay for more action on the 8th August for the Mixed Relay.

“This is the second time that Malta will be competing in the Commonwealth Youth Games and the first time we will be competing in triathlon. As one expects, the level is high but we are confident that our athletes, who satisfied the conditions of selection by the Maltese Olympic Committee and the Malta Triathlon Federation, will give a good account of themselves” commented Maria Vella-Galea, Chef de Mission and MOC Executive Board member.

The Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games will kick off  with a fanfare of music and colour at the Opening Ceremony on Friday 4 August. The spectacular, carnival-style celebrations will introduce young athletes from 71 Nations and Territories to Trinidad and Tobago’s traditional friendly welcome!

Kai Azzopardi and Keira Attard will be carrying the Maltese flag at the Hasely Crawford Stadium for the opening ceremony.

The contingent is being lead by Chef de Mission and MOC Director of Media Maria Vella-Galea. Accompanying the team will be Warren Muscat as Sport Official.

The team will return to Malta on the 14th August.
