
The Maltese Olympic Committee announced that Team Malta will be represented in the forthcoming Heraklion Mediterranean Beach Games by Mark Schembri who will be competing in the sprint rowing event. He will be accompanied by Prof Joseph Grima as coach and physiotherapist Milos Stanisavljevic. The contingent will be led by Chef de Mission and MOC Executive Board member, Dr Lucienne Attard.
The Rowing Beach Sprint competitions will be held at the beachfront of Karteros Beach Sports Centre, which is the main Venue of the Games and Schembri will start his commitments on the 10th September and continue daily until the 12thSeptember.
The Heraklion Mediterranean Games are a prestigious multi-sport event that will be taking place in the city of Heraklion, Crete in Greece between the 9th and 16th September 2023.
These Games bring together athletes from countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. With a rich history dating back to their inception in 1951, the Heraklion Mediterranean Beach Games have become a symbol of unity, cooperation, and friendly competition among nations in the Mediterranean region.
Malta has competed in two previous editions of these Games in Patras, Greece (2019) and Pescara, Italy (2015).
Mark Schembri be the flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony, taking place on the 9th September at the Karteros Beach Sports Centre.
