Athlete’s biography

Gianluca Chetcuti started training the sport 2012. A. year later aged 15, he was training in the Double Trap discipline, making his international debut in April 2014, at the Italian Nations Cup, securing the Junior bronze medal. In 2017, he competed at the ISSF World Cup in Larnaca, Cyprus, reaching the final and finishing in 4th place. That same year, he won Gold at the GSSE in San Marino and later earned a bronze medal at the European Championships in Baku.

In 2018, he briefly switched to Trap, made the national team, and participated in the ISSF World Cup held in Malta. After this event, he returned to Double Trap and, in 2019, clinched another Gold medal at the GSSE (Montenegro). By 2020, he switched to trap s and, by 2023, had become the first Maltese shooter to reach a final in an ISSF Trap World event and the first to final in two different ISSF disciplines.

His achievements continued at the 3rd European Games in Wroclaw in June 2023, where he set a new Maltese record with a qualifying score of 124/125, also a National and European Games Record, finishing 5th out of 8 finalists. Additionally, he equaled the Hal Far shooting range record of 123/125 in a local competition, a record set in 1995. In 2024 Gianluca finished in 4th overall at the ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championships in Doha, Qatar and was the top scorer at the Malta International Grand Prix. Together with swimmer Sasha Gatt, he will be carrying the Maltese flag at the Opening Ceremony.
