The hot and humid conditions that Oran is experiencing provided a very challenging race for athletes taking part in the half marathon this morning.
The weather conditions, coupled with the hilly route, wreaked havoc on any plans for personal best timings. This was seen in the winners’ Mohcin Outalha (MAR) and Giovanna Epis (ITA) results, both of whom were four and three minutes off their personal best time.
Similarly, Dillon Cassar and Lisa Bezzina, who represented Malta in this distance, finished at a time of 1:14:41 and 1:28:02 respectively.
Meanwhile, yesterday Ian Grech and Steve Camilleri took part in the Men’s Triple Jump and Men’s 100m Heat 1 respectively.
Maltese athletics’ commitments continue today with Ben Micallef’s participation in the second heat of the 800m Race. Meanwhile, tomorrow Saturday 2nd July when Roberta Schembri races in the 5000m event, Daniel Saliba in the 100m Hurdles, Rachela Pace in the Triple Jump, and Bradley Mifsud in the Discus event.
