‘Celebrating Team Malta’ is a free event open to all, and will take place on Wednesday 14th June 2023 at 7:30pm in Castille Square, Valletta. In this spectacular event, families are invited to attend and greet the athletes part of the Maltese contingent that participated in the 2023 Games of the Small States of Europe.
Malta’s success in these Games was immense. Malta’s medal tally of 38 Gold, 30 Silver and 29 Bronze medals saw Malta rank first, amongst the nine participating countries, in the overall medal leaderboard. Incidentally, Malta’s best result in previous Games was registered in 2003 when our country hosted these Games for the second time. That day Malta came in fourth place, with a tally of 44 medals. This result is certainly a cause for celebration.
“Celebrating Team Malta” promises to be a spectacular show, where families can meet their local heroes, the athletes who were part of the GSSE 2023 Maltese contingent. During the event, those present will be able to relive some of the best moments during the Games. Popular local artists, Amber and Aidan together with a live band will be performing. The two artists performed the official song of these Games, ‘Shine Your Light’. They will be joined on stage by popular DJs Ziggy and David. All this will be complemented with projections in the square and a stunning fireworks display.
“Celebrating Team Malta” is a continued show of support and unity towards Team Malta athletes. Although the Games have drawn to a close, the support Malta offered to Team Malta athletes should be an ongoing effort which will motivate them to keep on working towards bigger success for Maltese sport.
