White Hart took an early lead when Charlo Sammut shot them ahead in the 8th minute. Three minutes later White Hart’s David Agius pirouetted at the top of the D wrong footing the Hotsticks defence but seeing his shot well blocked by their custodian. The game flowed from end to end with White Hart steady and disciplined in defence creating problems with their fast breaks down the flanks and creating pressure on the Hotsticks rear guard. The half time whistle sounded with White Hart holding on to their one goal advantage.
Events in the second half turned the game on its head. As early as the 36th minute Steve Portelli hit a cross shot just over the bar from an acute angle. Hotsticks, a different proposition in the second half, increased their attacks taking control of midfield but it was not until the 57th minute , as a result of a penalty corner action, that Portelli hit home to level the score at 1 – 1. Two minutes later Julian Zahra netted with a powerful cross shot to send Hotsticks into a 2 – 1 lead. Both teams intensified their efforts coming close on several occasions but Hotsticks won a penalty corner on 65 minutes and Lukas Plaehn scored to send his team into a
3 – 1 lead which they held until the final whistle sounded.

Qormi were quick off the blocks and went ahead within the first minute when Thomas De Giovanni shot them 1 – 0 up. Two mintues later Ayrton Falzon shot them into a 2 – 0 lead stunning Young Stars. In the 9th minute Young Stars won the first penalty corner of the match and Mark Camilleri scored to bridge the gap to 2 – 1. On 16 minutes Qormi were awarded a penalty and Juan Sarcia netted from the spot to send his team into a 3 – 1 lead. After Edward Hughes just missed the target for Young Stars, hitting a reverse hit effort from an acute angle, on 26 minutes Falzon grabbed his second to send Qormi into a 4 – 1 lead. Young Stars then exerted more pressure and a minute before half time Camilleri scored his and his team’s second , the half time whistle blowing soon after with Qormi leading 4 – 2.
If one thought that was enough the second half provided even more fireworks, with open play being the order of the day. Juan Sarcia shot Qormi 5 – 2 up on 46 minutes with Chris Bonello replying for Young Stars three minutes later to set the score at 5 – 3. After a De Giovanni flick hit the cross bar for Qormi , on 52 minutes Steve Tanti pushed home receiving a pass from a Keith Calleja break down the right flank sending his team into 6 – 3 lead. Keith Calleja added a seventh for Qormi on 58 minutes. There was still enough time for Young Stars’ Camilleri to score a hat trick reducing the arrears to 7 – 4 on 62 minutes. It was only a minute later that Sarcia grabbed his hat trick to send Qormi 8 – 4 up, a lead which they held until the final whistle.
