Maltese contingent at third Summer Youth Olympic Games to compete in four disciplines

Team Malta is currently preparing to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina where they will join thousands of athletes, representing approximately 156 countries, taking part in the third Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

Malta is being represented by four athletes – Jacob El Aida Chaffey (Athletics – 200 metres),  Francesca Curmi (Tennis – Singles), Rudi Spiteri (Swimming – 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly) and Shelby Mangion Vassallo (Weightlifting).

Malta’s flag will be carried by Francesca Curmi during the Opening Ceremony to be held on Saturday 6th October at the Obelisco de Buenos Aires (Obelisk of Buenos Aires) a national historic monument and icon of Buenos Aires.

The competition Schedule for Maltese athletes is as follows:-

8th October Tennis Singles (First Round) Francesca Curmi
9th October Swimming 50m Freestyle (Heats) Rudi Spiteri
10th October Swimming 50m Butterfly (Heats) Rudi Spiteri
12th October Weightlifting 63kgs Shelby Mangion Vassallo
13th October Athletics 200m (Stage 1) Jacob El Aida Chaffey


The Maltese Contingent is being led by the Director of Sport Ivan Balzan as Chef de Mission.
