The Maltese Olympic Committee today officially announced the contingent travelling to Minsk for the European Games which will take place between the 21st to the 30th of June.
Malta will be fielding four athletes and will be taking part in Cycling (Alexander Smyth), Shooting (Michaela Galea – Trap, Eleanor Bezzina – Air Pistol 25m) and Judo (Jeremy Saywell).
This is the second time that Malta has taken part in the European Games having previously taken part in the 2015 edition which took place in Baku.
The Games will feature 200 events in 15 sports and around 4,000 athletes from 50 countries are expected to take part. Ten of the sports, including Shooting will offer qualification opportunities for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Maltese athletes will be involved in competitions as from Sunday 22nd June and will end on Wednesday 26th June. A detailed programme of events can be found here – .MINSK 2019 | European Games Team Malta Schedule
Chef de Mission duties will be carried out by Maltese Olympic Committee Director of Sport Ivan Balzan whilst Eleanor Bezzina was chosen as flag bearer. Bezzina has just returned from the Games of the Small States of Europe where she won a Gold medal in the Air Pistol (10m) discipline.
