Mr President, Members of the Committees and Members of the Press,

It is an honor for me that for the first time in for the A.SMK as the Maltese Federation for Motorcycling, that a team of 4 Maltese riders are going to represent Malta in the Meditterranean Motocross Trophy organized by the AMM, which is the Motorcycling Association for Mediterranean Countries and members within F.IM Europe. The A.M.M. is the brainchild of Mr Jean-Pierre Mougin who is also the President of the French Olympic Committee, who during his visit to Malta for the F.IM Europe annual congress held between the 2nd and 5th July, invited me to participate actively within the A.M.M. as Sporting Commissioner, as well as for Malta’s participatation in the Competition.

This international event will take place on the 7th and 8th November in Marseilles, France on the international track of La Fare Les Olivers. The Maltese contingent’s programm starts on the 5th November where the team will participate in 2 specialised training sessions under Mr Jean Jacques Bruno who is the National Coach of the French Motorcycling Federation. On Saturday 7th November the official practice sessions take place while on Sunday 8th November timed practice and qualification races for the starting gate positions will take place in the morning, with the main event consisting of 2 races of 20 minutes and one lap starting in the afternoon..

Besides Malta the countries that have confirmed their participation include France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Serbia from Europe, and Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Libya from  North Africa. These countries are all active in motocross at international level  and hence  able to offer a very strong challenge to Maltese riders.

However Clayton Camilleri and Edward Ciantar will be using their experience as regular competitors in the F.M.I. regional Sicilian championship where they always obtained positive results, especially  9 time Malta champion Clayton Camilleri is also on the podium regularly in Sicily. For Trevor Muscat and Kyle Camilleri the youngest Elite competitor of the A.S.M.K at 14 years, this is their debut in international racing. However, as a result of the work of the Executive Committee together with Italian expert track builder Angelo Cinquemani, who has built and maintained the track at Ta Qali for the past 2 championships, and along with the intensive training regime undergone by these riders non stop this Summer, we have achived the best ever level of Motocross riding. I have full confidence that our riders will be competitive and for the first time place Malta on the map of International Motocross.

I wish to express my gratitude on behalf of the A.S.M.K. and the riders in particular to Sport Malta (KMS) for aiding A.S.M.K to support its riders in competitions outside our shores, and to Cycle World Ltd. who kindly sponsored the National Motocross Team Gear and for offering their premises for this presentation.
